About the Artist:
During Ellen’s childhood, every time she earned a dime, she ran to the local newspaper stand to purchase a comic book. For days, she’d copy all the illustrations, and paint them with poster paints. Now over 60 years later, she still enjoys this art form. She has written and illustrated 2 children’s books.
Ellen went through exploratory periods. In the 60’s she was painting ships and Bullfighters in oils. Returning to college in the 70’s, she graduated from the University of Florida Summa Cum Laude with a B.A.E.
Upon moving from Jacksonville to the country in Keystone Heights, she did a series of environmental works. Painting in both oils and acrylics, she captured Florida’s Birds, Wildlife, Flora and Fauna. She experimented with pastels, charcoal and pen and ink drawings, but has always returned to oils.
When she paints or writes, she feel free. She is in a world of her own, and keeps in touch with creation, fulfilled and complete.
As a retired school teacher, she has found art to be a wonderful source of communication and plans to continue to use this wonderful gift that she has received for all the days of her life.
